Access to the Region’s Core (ARC) Trans-Hudson Express (THE) Tunnel Engineering

PACOTECH™ as part of a joint venture known as “THE Partnership,” provided Preliminary and Final Engineering support for the design of the Trans-Hudson Express (THE) Access to the Region’s Core (ARC) Tunnel, a $7.2 billion project that was to double New Jersey Transit and Amtrak rail capacity between New Jersey and New York by 2016.

THE ARC Tunnel project featured a new two-cavern, eight-track passenger station 120 feet under 34th Street in Manhattan between 6th and 8th Avenues, adjacent and connecting to the existing Pennsylvania Station; two new bored tunnels under the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey, and bored and sequential excavation tunnels in Manhattan; and track expansion, connections and train storage facilities in the Meadowlands located in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
